Natural libido and testosterone support is one of the most searched supplement categories โ€” and also one where marketing claims often outpace the underlying research. Here’s what peer-reviewed studies actually show about some of the most common ingredients.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia)

Also known as longjack, Tongkat Ali is a traditional Southeast Asian herbal remedy used to support energy, sexual health, and stress resilience. A systematic review published in Advances in Nutrition included one randomized controlled trial of Tongkat Ali and found it did not significantly increase testosterone concentrations, though the review noted research on many herbs remains limited in scope.

Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus terrestris is commonly marketed for strength and muscle gains. The same systematic review examined 4 separate studies on Tribulus and testosterone, finding no significant between-group differences in any of them โ€” including one study where 800mg/day for 30 days did not increase testosterone concentrations.

Maca Root (Lepidium meyenii)

Maca has a long history of traditional use in the Andes. Three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies examined maca’s effect on testosterone in a combined 126 male participants โ€” none found a statistically significant increase.

Our Libido Boost supplement for men combines Tongkat Ali Extract (300mg), Tribulus Terrestris (250mg), and Maca Root (100mg) per capsule โ€” the same three ingredients covered in the research above, though at different doses than the individual studies used, and this specific combination has not itself been clinically tested. Yohimbine as a Traditional Aphrodisiac

Yohimbine, derived from the yohimbe tree, has a long history of traditional use as an aphrodisiac and stimulant. The NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes there is limited research confirming its effectiveness, and documents real safety concerns โ€” including links to cardiac arrhythmia and blood pressure changes โ€” which is why yohimbe is restricted or banned in a number of countries. Our Yohimbine HCL fat burner capsules state the exact dose per capsule (5mg) so you always know what you’re taking. Read the NIH NCCIH guide to yohimbe.

What This Means for Choosing a Product

Traditional use and modern clinical evidence don’t always line up, especially for herbal ingredients where large, well-controlled human trials are still limited. That doesn’t mean these ingredients don’t work for everyone โ€” individual response varies โ€” but it does mean claims of guaranteed testosterone increases aren’t well supported by the current evidence, and none of the research above tested these exact product formulations. As with any supplement, talk to a healthcare provider before starting, particularly given yohimbine’s documented cardiovascular considerations.
